About Mitu Singh
Mitu Singh is a psychotherapist in private practice, registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). She has her Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology and is completing her Doctorate from the University of Toronto. Her previous counselling and psychotherapy experiences include serving as a counsellor at York University Counselling Centre, at Family Services York Region, and at Sutherland Chan School of Massage and Teaching Clinic. Mitu has provided psychotherapy to adults, youth and children. During these experiences she worked with people from all walks of life and addressed a wide range of issues with clients of diverse backgrounds in age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race and culture. Mitu has co-facilitated various therapy groups including Depression groups, Therapeutic Rhythm and Mindfulness groups, South Asian Women’s group, Yoga and Meditation groups, and Social Support groups.
Mitu is a passionate scholar-practitioner in the field of counselling psychology who divides her time between clinical practice, research and scholarly writing. In her clinical practice, she delivers evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion focused-therapy, client centered therapy, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness meditation and therapeutic yoga. As a researcher, Mitu is currently conducting a study examining the integration of yogic traditions in western forms of psychotherapy, and the therapist’s embodiment of yoga. Her major research interests include examining ancient healing traditions and their integration into counseling and psychotherapy. She has presented her research studies at various conferences including international conferences on psychotherapy and counselling.
In addition to her education in counselling psychology, Mitu has over 20 years of experience in studying and practicing yoga and meditation traditions, including yoga psychology, yoga and the subtle anatomy, Hatha Yoga, and Vedanta. She is a certificated yoga teacher and has been delivering classes and workshops on yoga, meditation and wellness related topics for over 10 years in Toronto and GTA. Mitu is also a trained martial artist of 10 years. Mitu has a love for learning and continues ongoing training in various psychological and alternative healing modalities. She continues her professional development by attending regular training and conferences.
